Joe Biden elected 46th President of US

WASHINGTON: Democratic candidate Joe Biden has been elected the 46th President of the United States of America.

America has chosen Biden (Joseph R. Biden Jr.) as its 46th president turning to a veteran voice who projected compassion and calm, and pledged to stabilize American politics.

He won 284 electoral votes while his Republican candidate and President Donald Trump got 214 electoral votes.

Biden, who turns 78 at the end of November, will become the oldest president in 100 years.

He secured more votes than Republican Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

President-elect Biden tweeted: “It’s time for America to unite. And to heal. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.”

Biden said he was “honored and humbled” to be elected.

“In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America,” Biden said.

The result makes Trump the first one-term president since the 1990s.

Earlier, addressing supporters, Biden said that the numbers “tell us a clear story; we’re going to win this race.”

Biden won by majority votes in the state of Arizona, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, Georgia, and Wisconsin while Trump had his hold over Texas, Ohio, Florida, Iowa, and North Carolina.
