Army Day to go sans cultural programs

The Nepali Army has decided to observe Army Day in low profile without any cultural programs  this year due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The Army Day falls on Thursday (March 11) this year coinciding with Maha Sivratri, the festival of Hindus.

According to Directorate of Public Relations and Information of the Nepal Army, unlike the previous years, it will observe the Army Day at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, with a few army personnel possible.

“There will be no cultural programs and dinner reception,”said the Nepal Army, adding, “Around 1,200 staffers will be reduced in the program this year.”

Over 3,000 army personnel used to be deployed for the celebrations of the Army Day in the previous years.

The activities during the program will include a display of armored, arms and equipment, band, free fall, shower of flowers and march-past to be witnessed by President Bhandari as the chief guest.
