Police make public the accused in Bhagarathi murder case

Police have paraded an alleged murder of Bhagirathi, a 17-year-old girl from Baitadi district of far-western Nepal.

Organising a press conference at the District Police Office, DIG Uttam Raj Subedi, the chief of the Provincial Police Office, who was in the district to look into the case, and other investigators made public Dinesh Bhatta, a neighbour of Bhagirathi, who also used to study in the same school.

The arrest has been made at a time when many people fear if this crime would also go unsolved for years as the Nirmala Panta rape and murder case from July 2018.

Police claim Dinesh Bhatta has a already confessed to the crime, saying he resorted to the murder in an act of vengeance to pacify himself following a family conflict.

Subedi, however, says the incident is yet to be investigated in detail, adding a forensic lab in Kathmandu is also studying some piecec of evidence. He informs he will be presented before the District Court today itself, seeking remand for further probe.

Bhagirathi Bhatta, a resident of Chadepani, Dokdakedar rural municipality-7 of the Baitadi district, had gone missing while returning from school on February 3, and her body was found the next day.
